The DHL International Logistics Centre in Robakowo is a key middle-mile hub in the region. On more than 30,000 m², thousands of logistics operations are carried out every day, requiring flawless coordination of people, processes, and infrastructure. In such a fast-paced environment, the safety of the building and its occupants is an absolute priority and a prerequisite for operational continuity.

This is why, already at the construction stage, DHL decided to implement SENSE Smart Roofs technology, enabling the early identification of increasing structural load risks.

Real-time monitoring instead of going onto the roof

In Robakowo, DHL uses the SENSE Smart Roofs structural monitoring system, which tracks roof behaviour in real time under the influence of water, snow, and other loads. Measuring deflection and analysing load changes makes it possible to capture the exact moment when risk begins to increase.

As soon as this happens, the responsible teams receive an instant alert in the app and can take action proactively – without sending people onto the roof and without interrupting operations.

The safety of our building, our employees, and our parcels is our absolute priority. The roof monitoring system allows us to respond to load changes in advance, not after the fact.

At this scale, you need data – not intuition

In a middle-mile facility, even a small delay can create a ripple effect: starting in the cross-dock area, moving to the sorting centre, and ultimately influencing the last mile. That’s why decisions related to structural safety must rely on data, not intuition.

SENSE Smart Roofs technology provides the DHL team in Robakowo with real-time information about the condition of the structure, along with detailed trends and event history in the app. This allows them to quickly identify growing risks and plan ahead – both for a single facility and for the entire building portfolio. In practice, it means fewer roof entries and more predictable, well-organized winter maintenance interventions.

From Robakowo to Piła and beyond: Standardising SENSE Smart Roofs across the DHL network

The SENSE Smart Roofs solution has proven so effective at the Robakowo International Logistics Centre that DHL has decided to continue deployments in additional locations. The system is already operating at the new terminal in Piła and is being implemented in three more facilities across the network.

Such consistency is crucial. Standardising structural safety procedures contributes to more stable operational performance – regardless of a building’s size, location, or weather conditions. With one unified solution, the entire network can operate according to the same data-driven principles that enable proactive reactions and increase process predictability.

We are proud that a global logistics leader relies on the SENSE Smart Roofs Platform– this shows that building automation is becoming a new standard in the industry. Our collaboration with DHL is an example of how data can support everyday operational decisions and long-term maintenance planning, without increasing risk for people.
